Subject: MAYORAL CANDIDATE DOROTHY BROWN'S ANSWERS TO CPD SUPERINTENDANT STORY From: meridth - To: sam@invisibleinstitute.com - Date: November 15, 2018 at 9:36 PM Hi Sam, My name is Meridth Hammer and I am the Campaign Manager for Mayoral Candidate Dorothy Brown. Following is the statements and answers, from Mayoral Candidate Dorothy Brown, to your questions concerning the Eddie Johnson Superintendent story: The information within the article is very disturbing. It appears that Mayor Rahm Emanuel either did not do his due diligence when making his selection of Eddie Johnson as Superintendent, or it just did not matter to Mayor Emanuel that Superintendent Johnson had been the supervisor or commander in the cases described. The most disturbing case is where he signed off on the Rekia Boyd shooting as justified. Should this pattern of Johnson approving serious and deadly uses of force have been caught by the Mayor’s Office during its vetting process? Answer: YES If elected, would you consider keeping on Eddie Johnson as superintendent? Answer:Superintendent Johnson is Mayor Rahm Emanuel Superintendent. I will appoint my own Superintendent. If not, how would you select your CPD superintendent? Would you promote from within the department? Answer: I plan to have a nation wide search for a Police Superintendent. People from within the ranks would be welcomed to apply. I would be looking for a Superintendent that not only has a law enforcement background, but has a demonstrated ability to lead with a sense of social justice and fairness. I would also be looking for a Superintendent that could bring 21st Century Policing Strategies to Chicago. Regardless of what happens with the election, should Eddie Johnson remain superintendent? Answer:I would appoint my own Superintendent. Would you continue Mayor Emanuel’s police reform agenda, or do you have your own plan you’d like to implement (to the degree that’s possible, assuming the consent decree is approved by a federal judge)? Answer: Whether the federal judge approves the consent decree or not, I would implement the reforms indicated by the U. S. Justice Department as well as my own reforms. My platform includes criminal and social justice reform, whereby there is an integrated approach to reform that would incorporate all off the criminal justice agencies, from the Chicago Police Department to all the Cook County Public Safety entities to the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Correction. The entire system must be reformed. Sincerely, ?Meridth Hammer, Campaign Manager, Dorothy Brown for Chicago Mayor 2019
