November 24, 2018 Statement from Upper Canada College to CBC “Any incident of assault or bullying is deeply troubling to us, and this story is no exception. We applaud all individuals for their courage in sharing their stories. Upper Canada College is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment. This was reaffirmed by our principal again last week at a school assembly and in a letter to parents. This is a transformative time in our culture related to issues of assault and bullying. UCC began this transformation in 2004 by taking concrete steps to improve, enhance and formalize our policies and protocols around the safety of our students. These policies are regularly reviewed and updated. UCC’s Policy and Procedures for Preventing, Identifying and Investigating Harassment, Abuse and Violence makes it clear that harassment, abuse or intimidation in any form are against everything the College stands for as an educational institution. Such conduct will not be tolerated, and reported incidents will be thoroughly investigated and acted upon. In addition, we have reached out to our students and alumni on several occasions to invite them to share any concerns they may have had during their time at school. For any and all allegations brought to our attention, we have always met with the individual, listened and taken appropriate action and will continue to do so. We don’t believe that it’s appropriate to comment on individual cases in the media. Through CBC, we have shared our contact information and would welcome hearing from this individual so that we may provide him with appropriate support.” Contact Marnie Peters, Director, Marketing & Communication Upper Canada College mpeters@ucc.on.ca
