Thewaudit was completed and, reviewed in June. The ?ndingsof areas of concern and potential NJ CAA Violations involving 21 scholarship student-athletes and one member of the athletic department. BelOw is a summary of the ?ndings and attached to this letter is the speci?c audit ?ndings for each scholarship student-athlete. I. II. Administration of Grants?In-Aid a. Associate Director of Athletics and Head Women?s Basketball Coach Tim Parrinello as part'of his role is responsible for creating, editing, and submitting for all programs. In addition, he is directly responsible for loading monies on to student-athlete accounts. Impermissible aid awarded 2017-18 - $22,440 i. Tuition: Roughly half (49%)01? the impermissible aid awarded above and beyond the allowable limits permitted by the NJCAA are a result of the New York State - Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). In most cases, student?athletes received athletic aid disbursements equivalent to the allowable amount outlined in the NJ CAA handbook and were later aWarded TAP, a tuition only assistance program, which reduced the amount of tuition speci?c athletic aid we could give to Division I and II studentjathletes. Course Related Fees: In some cases we awarded aid above and beyond what is allowed under course related fees. For example, we were covering international student?athlete insurance costs which is not allowable under NJ CAA rules and regulations. 7 Summer Courses: In two instances we provided aid to student-athletes for their 2017 summer courses and listed this aid on the incorrect LOI year 2017-18. Letter of Intent a. In many cases the Letter of Intent was not correctly updated or written. b. Three were not updated when a student-athlete received more aid than what was listed on the original LOI. - 0. Four were not updated and permission from the NJCAA was not requested when a . student?athlete received a reduction in aid. 1 IV. Action Steps . I a a- - b. All athletic scholarship monies to be approved, awarded, and managed by Financial Aid Of?ce. e. Educational seSsion for athletic department staff to be held on August 15. f. Language on LOI updated to re?ect the potential for in-state tuition-only grant aid. g. Scheduled mid-semester audits of all student?athlete accounts to ensure scholarship awards are within-written LOI award and parameters set by NJCAA. h. 20 percent reduction in allowable for all scholarship programs for two years starting fall 2019 and ending spring 2021. i. The integrity of the NJCAA is reliant on the membership doing the right thing. Based on the self?report and internal audit it is con?rmed that violations of NICAA bylaws have occurred with the Letters of Intent Scholarships for multiple student?athletes in multiple sports during the 2017-2018 academic year. The NJCAA commends MCC for the thorough review, report and actions being taken. to be in compliance with NJCAA, Region and the YNAC.
