or mmoss DES count-an MADA December 4, 2018 Ms. Christine Lefrance Clerk of the Standing Committee on International Trade Sixth Floor, 13] Queen Street House of Commons Ottawa ON KIA 0A6 Canada Dear Clerk of the Standing Committee on International Trade: Opposition Members of the Standing Committee on International Trade have serious concerns about the negative impacts of remaining tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products. The Prime Minister failed to ensure tariffs were removed prior to signing the new NAFTA trade agreement and businesses across the country have already been forced to cut orders, reduce shifts, and lay off workers. Businesses are now facing even greater uncertainty given the recent announcement that the United States will terminate the existing trade agreement if the new NAFTA is not rati?ed in six months. Last week, the Opposition called for the Prime Minister to hold an emergency meeting with President Trump to secure the immediate removal of tariffs but unfortunately the Prime Minister failed to do so. Canadians are now facing a competitiveness crisis that the Trudeau government cannot afford to ignore any longer. That said, pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), Opposition Members are calling for an emergency meeting of the Committee to consider the following motion: That the Committee hold a briefing with the Prime Minister to testify and present a plan to ensure the immediate removal of tariffs on steel and aluminum products before Parliament rises for the Christmas break. Thank you for your attention to this matter. a? Colin Carrie, MP 1 dy Hoback, MP Tracey Ramsey, MP
