I have been in contact with the Navy but I don't think they can answer the questions I have specifically for Continental Maritime. You said in your email that Continental/HII's security measures are adequate and do comply with those dictated by the Navy. But to ensure I do not write anything inaccurate in my story, could you please tell me how that could be the case when there are no security patrol boats accompanying ships in the San Diego yard, and NAVSEA Standard Item 009-72 requires there be one patrol boat for every three ships? For accuracy, I'm attaching photos showing no patrol boats were present at Continental Maritime during my last three outings in San Diego Bay on Sept. 6, Oct. 24 and Nov. 6. If I am misinterpreting 009-72 or simply missing something, please let me know so I can include it in the story. And if there is any additional information or context I'm not considering, please also include that. As a matter of policy we do not discuss the security measures we have in place, but they are adequate and do comply with the security requirements dictated by the Navy for the ships we have under repair at our facility. The Navy audits us weekly. Any further questions should be directed to the Navy. I have many questions regarding the Continental Maritime shipyard in San Diego and would appreciate an answer by Friday 5 p.m. PST (that is my deadline). My questions are: 1. How many people does HII employ in the San Diego shipyard? 2. Do you have any numbers related to HII's economic impact/benefit to the San Diego region? 3. How much was HII awarded in Navy contracts for ship repair and maintenance in CY 2017? 4. Why is HII not providing the level of security required by NAVSEA Standard Item 009-72? This requirement dictates the number of patrol boats required per ship in the yard. 5. When was the last time HII had a patrol boat in the water in its San Diego shipyard? 6. When was the last time the Navy officially audited HII's operations in San Diego? 7. Each ship repair contract has a line item for security. What's the general amount HII is being paid per ship to provide security? Thank you in advance for your help. I can be reached by email or at the cell phone in the signature. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions. -Brad 2 of 4 12/10/18, 1:34 PM RE: Re: FW: FW: EXT : Reporter in San Diego Brenton, Beci wrote on 12/5/18 6:57 AM: Hi Brad, I handle all media queries for the company.
