The European business culture is significantly different from the United States, with different political traditions and different expectations. In fact, following the merger, we were pleasantly surprised that they remained with the GCC for an additional year, given the circumstances of the acquisition. DaimlerChtysler and GCC positions of pursuing an aggressive policy of voluntary actions, research and development remain identical. That is also true of both organizations' continued opposition to the unworkable Kyoto Protocol. The GCC is an ardent advocate for successful voluntary programs and initiatives that address emissions and improve efficiency. Our members are also driving the changes that are bringing the next generation of technological advances to the market today. GCC remains the leading voice for U.S. businesses in the important debate surrounding global climate issues and will continue to aggressively pursue positive, common sense solutions to the challenge of potential climate change. We will urge sound scientific answers to many uncertain questions. And, we will continue to promote policies that are fair and in the best economic interest of American workers, families and communities. ####
