Fax: 202.638.1032 The Global Climate Coalition consists of over fifty different business organizations with both domestic and international interests. Members include a wide range of industrial concerns including agriculture, utilities, oil, gas, railroads, automobiles, chemicals, mining, minerals and broad business groups. Eighteen of America's largest trade groups belong. Members are actively engaged with the Congress and the United Nations on a wide variety of issues related to global climate, technology cooperation and transfer, international regulation, and science and economics. In the last two years, the GCC has participated vigorously in each of the negotiations on a climate change treaty and made several presentations to promote business cooperation in this area. The GCC was also a lead U.S. business group and spokesman on climate in Rio de Janeiro at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and were actively involved in the first interim INC negotiating session this past December in Geneva. Coalition representatives have also met with interested parties in Japan and Europe to discuss implementation of the climate treaty, the needs of developing countries, and future activities of the United Nations. The GCC has been engaged with Congress on the climate change debate, pointing out the necessity to balance environmental concerns with economic considerations, especially as it impacts on the U.S. industrial base and American jobs. The Coalition has also worked with various Federal agencies on programs which promote the development and export of energy and environmental technology, including the development of a Technology Resource Guide to assist U.S. companies in exporting environmental technology. We are also advocating the creation of the Technology Cooperation Corps to aid developing countries in assessing their technology needs. We have closely followed the Administration's initiatives in the climate area, and have worked with the Department of State, A.I.D. and others on technology cooperation and industry involvement in development issues.
