Negotiators are meeting this week and next in Geneva to begin the "Berlin Mandate"
process of considering "policies and measures" and a timetable for reducing greenhouse
gas emissions after 2000.
Last week John Shlaes, the Executive Director of the Global Climate Coalition, forwarded
to you two pieces of correspondence the Coalition had sent to Administration officials
regarding the Geneva meeting and other COP issues. Since then, two additional letters
were delivered, and we thought you might find them useful as you plan your coverage of
the ongoing Conference Of The Parties (COP) process.
We are planning a conference call briefing from John Shlaes and other Coalition members
from Geneva early next week. We will be notifying you by fax when the final schedule
has been worked out.
