Briggs, executive vice president of the Association of American Railroads, today was named chairman of the Global Climate Coalition (GCC), the nation's leading business voice on global climate change. Briggs, who previously served as vice-chairman, was elected to replace Jerry J. Jasinowski, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, who remains a member of the GCC Executive Committee. The GCC also elected Robert Cole, vice president of Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation, as vice chairman for policy; Rob Long, vice president of the National Coal Association, as secretary; Dale Heydlauff, vice president of American Electric Power Service Corporation, as treasurer; William F. O'Keefe, executive vice president of the American Petroleum Institute, as chairman of the Operating Committee; and Robert McFadden, manager of special projects, American Automobile Manufacturers Association, as vice chairman of the Operating Committee. John Shlaes continues his duties as executive director. Briggs will also serve as Chairman of the Executive Committee, which guides the coalition on behalf of the board of directors at a time of heightened domestic and international attention to climate change issues. The Global Climate Coalition, a non-profit organization of business trade associations and private companies, was established in 1989 to coordinate business participation in the science, economic and policy debates on global climate change. 112128]
