The Ford and GCC positions of opposing the Kyoto Protocol, while pursuing an aggressive policy of voluntary actions, research and development remain identical. The GCC is an ardent advocate for successful voluntary programs and initiatives that reduce emissions and improve efficiency. Our members are also driving the changes that are bringing the next generation of technological advances to the market today. Meanwhile, the GCC remains a strong and important voice in the debate surrounding global climate issues. What is most disappointing about Ford's decision is that it seems to be driven by a campaign of misinformation by fringe environmental groups such as Ozone Action who disregard the serious nature of this debate with scare tactics, half-truths and outright distortions. While these groups may heat up the rhetoric, our members will continue to aggressively pursue voluntary environmental initiatives and cost-effective new technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We will urge sound scientific answers to many uncertain questions. And, we will continue to promote common-sense solutions that are fair and in the best economic interest of American workers, families and communities. ####
