Salem is an advanced graduate student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has been a student of the University of Washington since 2012. In 2015, he earned a Master of Arts degree in political science and subsequently began pursuing a PhD in political science. Specializing in the fields of comparative politics and public law, he completed his qualifying exams in December 2015, and defended his dissertation prospectus in June of 2017. He has been on graduate on-leave status from the University of Washington since Summer Quarter 2017 working on his dissertation, co-chaired by two award winning mentors, which has the working title "Judicial Independence and Embeddedness in Hybrid Regimes." The empirical research is grounded in interviews with judges and lawyers, media coverage, and archival resources.
