At the end of the day on December 21, 2018, the appropriations act that had been 17 funding the Department of Justice expired and appropriations to the Department lapsed. At this 18 19 20 time the Department does not know when funding will be restored by Congress. 2. Undersigned counsel for the Department of Justice, therefore, requests a stay of 1 2 all pending deadlines until Congress has restored appropriations to the Department, including the 3 Department’s January 9, 2019 deadline to respond to the Court’s December 3, 2018 show cause 4 order. 5 4. If this motion for a stay is granted, undersigned counsel will notify the Court as 6 soon as Congress has appropriated funds for the Department.
