The Q1 video tape was reviewed to locate images depicting the bank robber. Multiple images were selected for further examination using image processing techniques. These techniques included analog and digital brightness and contrast adjustments, as well as unsharp masking. The resulting images were printed on FUJI PICTRO paper. The selected Q1 images were compared with the K2 shirt 010514252 HD) to determine if the K2 shirt is the shirt worn by the bank robber. The K2 shirt and the shirt worn by the bank robber in the Q1 class. 211m indixidual identifLingcharagteristics: Therefore, it was concluded that the K2 shirt is the shirt worn by the bank robber. The selected Q1 images were compared with the K4 and K5 photographs 010515253 HD) of WILBERT MCKREITH to determine if MCKREITH can be identi?ed or eliminated as the robber. It was observed that skin tone of the bank robber's left arm and hand is consistent with the skin tone of MCKREITH as depicted in the K4 and K5 images. However, due to a lack of observable individual identifying characteristics in the Q1 images, as well as obstruction of the robber?s face by his mask in the Q1 as 91 images. Likewise, it was not possible to eliminate MCKREITH as the robber. It should be noted that any apparent differences in skin tone between the bank robber, as depicted in the Q1 video images, and MCKREITH, as depicted in the K4 and K5 photographs, are not suf?cient to eliminate MCKREITH as the bank robber. Such apparent differences can result from differences in lighting conditions under which the images were acquired, as well as differences in the spectral sensitivity of the detectors used to acquire the images in question. Speci?cally, the sensors used in video cameras are more sensitive to infrared light than is ?lm. Therefore, any material which re?ects infrared light, such as skin, will appear brighter in an image ?'om a video camera than in a ?lm image, if the material is illuminated with both visible and infrared light. In some cases, ?lters are placed on video detectors to block out the infrared, making them similar to ?lm, but this is frequently not the case with black and white surveillance cameras.
