E-FILED 2019 JAN 17 3:05 AM GUTHRIE - CLERK OF DISTRICT COURT AFFIDAVIT STATE OF IOWA, GUTHRIE COUNTY I, the undersigned, being duly sworn, state that all facts contained in this Complaint and Affidavit, known by me or told to me by other reliable persons form the basis for my belief that the defendant committed this crime State all facts and persons relied upon supporting elements of alleged crime 1. On 01/16/2019 at approximately 1620 hours, Deputy Mink, Chief Deputy Bennett and Sheriff Arganbright and I went to 500 1st Ave. Jamaica, IA to look for Randy Halterman. Mr. Halterman has an active arrest warrant out of Story County for Attempted Murder. Sheriff Williams of Greene County had relayed information to our office that he had information Mr. Halterman was at the Kennedy residence in Jamaica. 2. When we went to the residence, Deputy Mink, Chief Deputy Bennett and I could all smell the overwhelming odor of raw marijuana coming from the residence while we stood outside knocking on the door. Sheriff Arganbright stated he saw someone come to the window and then close it again. 3. Deputy Mink called Deputy Swensen to have a search warrant authored for the residence due to the information we had on Halterman's possible presence at the residence and due to the overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from the residence. 4. While waiting for the search warrant to be authored, law enforcement surrounded the house. Shortly before the signed search warrant was made available to law enforcement on scene, Mr. Kennedy exited the house and was detained. After he was detained, Kennedy asked to go inside to get his coat. He asked me to escort him. I went inside with Kennedy and the house smelled strongly of marijuana. Kennedy admitted there were "nine plants" in the basement. 5. We exited the house and Kennedy was detained in the back of one of our cruisers. The search warrant was emailed to my email account by Deputy Swensen. Law enforcement then entered the residence and executed the search warrant. 6. During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement located eighteen marijuana plants in various states of growth. There were three separate areas in the residence for marijuana growing. A substantial purpose of the residence was for marijuana growing, sorting, packaging. 7. Law enforcement also located nine baggies with packaged marijuana in it. A very, very rough estimate of the packaged marijuana would be around 45 ounces. 8. Numerous items of drug paraphernalia were located in the residence. 9. On top of the file cabinet in dining room/office, Deputy Mink found an unlabeled pill bottle with 24 white pills within. The pills were labeled "Watson 240 0.5". The pills were identified as Lorazapam, a scheduled IV controlled substance.
