SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Genetically Engineered 5 Salmon Labeling Act’’. 6 7 SEC. 2. PURPOSES. It is the purpose of this Act to ensure that consumers 8 in the United States can make informed decisions when 9 purchasing salmon. TAM19110 S.L.C. 2 1 2 3 SEC. 3. MARKET NAME FOR GENETICALLY ENGINEERED SALMON. (a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding subtitle E of 4 title II of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 (7 5 U.S.C. 1639 et seq.), or any other provision of law, for 6 purposes of applying the Federal Food, Drug, and Cos7 metic Act (21 U.S.C. 301 et seq.), the acceptable market 8 name of any salmon that is genetically engineered shall 9 include the words ‘‘Genetically Engineered’’ or ‘‘GE’’ prior 10 to the existing acceptable market name. 11 (b) DEFINITION.—For purposes of this section, salm- 12 on is genetically engineered if it has been modified by re13 combinant DNA (rDNA) techniques, including the entire 14 lineage of salmon that contain the rDNA modification.
