Speaker Pelosi made one thing clear during the government shutdown: she doesn’t care about the tragic consequences of illegal immigration on American families.  She says walls are immoral. What’s truly immoral is refusing to stop criminal illegal immigrants from coming into our country.    The Democrats’ far-left immigration agenda has tragic real-world consequences. Here are some examples: Just this week, Michael Burgess and Vice President Mike Pence met with a single father and U.S. veteran, who lost his 13-year-old daughter in a 2014 car crash caused by an illegal immigrant. That same year, an illegal immigrant killed his 10-year-old cousin and dumped her in an East Texas well in Louie Gohmert’s district. In June, authorities found the severely burned body of a 20-year-old student inside a smoldering apartment in Chip Roy’s San Antonio district. The victim had been missing for three days before the discovery of his charred corpse. The convicted killer is an illegal immigrant who authorities had previously detained for driving drunk. Close to the border in Arizona, one of Andy Biggs' constituents was murdered at a convenience story by an illegal alien who previously had previously pled guilty to a burglary charge. Residents in Biggs' Mesa district suffered an additional tragedy when an illegal immigrant, driving the wrong way, struck and killed a local police officer.  Near Debbie Lesko's Arizona district, a border agent was shot and killed in 2010 by a group of drug traffickers who were attempting to smuggle narcotics into the country.  A few months before this happened, a rancher in the same area was murdered on his own by property by an illegal immigrant.  These horrific tragedies aren’t isolated to border states. Scott DesJarlais told us of a 29-year-old woman killed in October by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk and without a license, registration, or insurance. The driver escaped the custody of Tennessee authorities and remains on the state’s top ten most wanted list. In November, a six-year-old girl in John Rose’s Tennessee district was sexually assaulted by a 42-year-old man, who was in the country illegally and snuck into her home while her family was sleeping. A month later, an illegal immigrant swerved into oncoming traffic on a state highway and killed the 22-year-old son of a Knoxville fire chief in Tim Burchett’s district. Nearly 600 miles West, Steve Womack shared the story of an 11-yearold girl who was sexually assaulted last summer in Arkansas by a 21year-old Mexican man living in the country illegally. Just east of them in North Carolina, three individuals, including a former contestant from "America's Next Top Model," were murdered in Richard Hudson's district in 2015 by an illegal immigrant. The killer was a known gang member with drug arrests on his record, despite being approved for amnesty under the Obama Administration.  In Brian Mast’s Florida district, a woman was left widowed as a single mother after a 2017 car crash involving a suspected illegal immigrant killed her husband. A year prior, an illegal immigrant driving without a license slammed into a fire truck in Steve Scalise’s district, throwing a fire chief 40-feet to his death off a bridge. Just a little over a month ago, an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported in 2015 for a felony drug trafficking conviction was chargedwith first degree rape in Gary Palmer's district.   Also earlier this month, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador was charged with murdering four people, including an elderly couple, in Mark Amodei's Nevada district.   The tragic impacts of illegal immigration have been felt by Americans for decades. Barry Loudermilk shared with us the story of a 16-year-old, who was killed in 2000 by an illegal immigrant in a car crash on Father’s Day. Former Rep. Rod Blum told us of a grief-stricken daughter whose 90year-old mother was killed in a 2007 car crash by an illegal immigrant driving with a fraudulent license, who also had a prior felony conviction for meth possession. Remember these horrific stories when Nancy Pelosi and the extremists in her caucus call physical barriers  "immoral." What's truly immoral is refusing to secure our southern border to prevent this from happening again. Copyright © 2019 House Republican Conference, All rights reserved.
