THE OFFICE OF CHARTER SCHOOLS 160 South Hollywood Street, Room 138 Memphis, Tennessee 38112 0 901?416-5321 December 14, 2018 This letter is intended to keep you apprised of current Tennessee law and the possible need for you to explore different school options for the 2019-2020 school year. This past autumn, Shelby County Schools was noti?ed that is on the 2018 Tennessee Department of Education Priority List. The Priority List identi?es schools that are performing in the bottom 5% of Tennessee schools academically and who have not shown signi?cant growth. A school?s inclusion on the list is not a reflection of the dedication of school staff or the educational ability of the students enrolled. It is merely an acknowledgment of the school?s relative performance across Tennessee. Under current state law, Shelby County Schools must revoke the charter agreements of charter schools on the Priority List. As you may know, the Shelby County School Board deferred their vote pending additional information from the State of Tennessee. Though we do not know when the Shelby County Board will revisit this matter, our enrollment process begins soon and so we encourage you to get familiar with the 200 schools under the SCS umbrella at scsk12.org/schools. The Parent Welcome Center, which can be reached at (901) 416-5300, can help walk you through the General Choice Transfer process and your enrollment options. El Centro de Bienvenia'a para Padres habla espa?ol. The educational progress of every student within Shelby County Schools is our highest priority. Sincerely WW Daphne J.M.
