METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 February 8, 2019 Third Arrest Made in a Homicide: 1700 Block of Benning Road, Northeast (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce a third arrest has been made regarding a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, January 12, 2019, in the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast. At approximately 2:05 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported victim one to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Victims two and three were also transported to local hospitals and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Michael Taylor, of Northeast, DC. On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, pursuant to DC Superior Court arrest warrants, two adult males, both of Northeast, DC, were arrested and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
