In an effort to keep you informed, we want to provide you an update on options for consideration as part of HMC-1: Shaping Our Future. At the public meeting on February 12, MGT Consulting Group outlined several options that would address the district’s building usage, capacity, and budget reductions. MGT was driven by several factors when developing options. They include: ● Maintain and/or improve educational programs ● Target building utilization at 85% ● Utilize the highest scoring buildings based on condition and suitability ● Geographical considerations ● Best practices for school size ● Maintain fiscal responsibility The options are as follows: ● A grade configuration of K-5, 6-8, 9-12 ● Pre-K to be housed at Freda Markley and Ervin ● Ervin to become a neighborhood school for pre K - 5 ● Close Symington Elementary, Truman Elementary, Johnson Elementary ● Close Symington Elementary, Truman Elementary, Johnson Elementary and Dobbs Elementary ● If Ervin does not become a neighborhood school, Ingels Elementary would possibly close instead of Johnson The PowerPoint presentation by MGT can be found on the HMC-1: Shaping Our Future website. Please note that no decisions have been made. A final recommendation will come at the February 21 Board of Education meeting. The Board is expected to take a vote at that meeting on the recommendation. The Board meeting will be at Smith-Hale Middle School at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
