PROJECT DESCRIPTION

= CONSTRUCTION AREA

As a part of the I-45 Gulf Freeway Widening Project
between FM 518 and FM 517, the I-45/FM 646 intersection
will be flipped so that I-45 passes over FM 646.

The intersection will be constructed in two phases. The first
phase will include the demolition of the FM 646 overpass,
construction of the I-45 northbound mainlane overpass,
and reconstruction of the intersection and frontage roads.
Following the first phase of construction, the intersection
will be reopened to east/west traffic and the access roads
will be reconstructed along with the I-45 southbound
mainlane overpass.

FAST FACTS
ACCESSIBILITY
All efforts will be made to minimize the impacts of the
intersection construction to the local businesses and
residents. Therefore, during these actvities, the access
roads will remain open and the reconstruction of the
driveways into the businesses along the access roads will
be reconstructed in sections or during non-business hours.

BENEFITS
The new FM 646/ I-45 intersection will include bi-direction
access roads and U-turns. Both new amenities will improve
the access to the surrounding businesses and residences,
reduce congestion and queue times at the intersection.

SCHEDULE
• It is anticipated that the FM 646 overpass will
be removed in early 2019.
• The contractor will have 6 months with incentives
and disincentives for early and late completion.
• It is anticipated that the intersection will reopen
to east/west traffic in Fall 2019.
