STATEMENTS TO INVESTIGATIVE POST REGARDING KATHRYN BASS, MD
BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 8, 2019) – Oishei Children’s Hospital, a Kaleida Health facility,
today released the following statement today to the Investigative Post regarding Kathryn
Bass, MD:
Michael P. Hughes, spokesman for Oishei Children’s Hospital said, “Your story is focused on a
2018 New York State Department of Health publication that addresses an issue that dates
back to six years ago (2012) at a hospital that has since closed and moved to a new
location. It was a personal decision by Dr. Bass to take a no contest position rather than
continue to litigate this matter for years. At no time were there any actual findings against
Dr. Bass and at no time was she ever restricted in any way from performing even the most
complex of procedures.
“Dr. Bass continues to lead the Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital,
earning the highest rank of quality conferred by the American College of Surgeons. She is an
integral part of the team and workforce that has helped Oishei Children’s Hospital in its
move toward national quality leader. Oishei Children’s Hospital was recently named a Top
Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group - widely acknowledged as one of the most
competitive honors American hospitals can receive. Oishei Children’s Hospital is the only
hospital in New York State and among the top 6% of eligible hospitals nationally to receive
this Top Hospital distinction.”

Surgery and director, Pediatric Surgery Fellowship, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical
