Cwer the last few heel-Is, I realise there has been much discussion about the recent decision not to permit a same sex couple to enroll their child in our school. I hate heard from numerous school families and non-school parishioners on this decision and hate had meetings Twith ses'eral inditiduals who have strong opinions on this matter. Itis apparent to me that allthese opinions come from a place of lore and compassion forthe farcilyand the desire for inclusii'lty within our school and church community. Twhen the question of enrollment ?rst arose, I sought the advice of the Archdiocese since as a parochial school we are subject to the guidance of the Archdiocese on the application of Church doctrine. To summarise; the Archdiocese states that since same sexunions are not in conformance with the Chm'chs teaching on sacramental marriage and these unions have no current ah-ililyto bring their relationship into conformity, the parents cannot model behaviors and attitudes consistentwith the Church?s teachings. This creates a conflict for those children and whatis experienced at home. It also could become a source of confusion for other school children. For these reasons, the Archdiocese advised against admission Itis true that other dioceses across the country has'e stews on same sex unions that prmide avenues for the children of these couples to attend Catholic schools. Ctther local schools not af?liated with our Archdiocese also have different policies. Each diocesehas the ability to form policy on these matters while individual diocesan schools do not. I hate communicated to the Archdiocese the concerns raised by St. Ann parishioners as a result ofthis decision. These parishioners and I plan to continue dialog each other and the Archdiocese. This is an attempt to undermine Church doctrine but to ?nd common understanding to meet the eter?chang'ng landscape of our society. As your paston Ian1 distressed mer thedit?ision this sensitive and complex issue has caused Taithin our school and church. I pray that through constructive dialog and the guidance of the HolySpirit that we can come together as a communityto do Gods will in all things. I aslc foryour prayers for healing. peace and understanding as no move forward as a ?ith community and lChurch. Tdiith the promise of prayer, ?Kegreyyc Fr. Craig J. Maxim Pastor m1 MIEIDH EDHD I
