Biographical Sketch - Charles L. Hosier Affirmative Action From 1956 to 1968, spent six weeks each year working with science teachers in black institutions of higher learning in the southern United States. The only earth science graduate program at a black institution in the United States was started at Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia as a result of this work. Through a continuing relationship with former students and faculty at these institutions, maintained up to the present; has been instrumental in helping hundreds of black students acquire degrees; found financial resources for, and sponsored, a number of graduate students at Penn State, three of whom obtained doctorates and three obtained master's degrees. Recreation Ran half-mile in high school, Bucknell, and M.I.T.; was on soccer team at Bucknell; played baseball and boxed. Enjoy fishing, hunting canoeing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
