Highlights of Recovery and Wellness Efforts since February 14, 2018  Immediately opened five locations for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) community to receive free mental health support, including the Broward County Resiliency Center, which is open 7 days a week in partnership with the city of Parkland. o The Broward County Resiliency Center, located at the Amphitheatre at Pine Trails Park,10561 Trails End, Parkland, Florida, serves those who seek individual, family and group counseling. The center is staffed with two full time licensed clinicians who provide trauma-informed counseling services. The Center offers drop-ins, individual appointments, family therapy appointments, and group therapy.  Engaged national experts, including the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement (met with the parents of the deceased and injured), The Center for Mind-Body Medicine, the National Center for Victims of Crime, the University of South Carolina Medical Schools trauma specialists and others.  Consulted with individuals from Columbine, Sandy Hook and Pulse  Received the STOP School Violence – Prevention and Mental Health Training Program Grant Award of $500,000. Through this grant, BCPS expanded its partnership with Sandy Hook Promise to provide its Know the Signs violence prevention programs Districtwide by providing targeted support to approximately 55 secondary schools in the District. This includes training sessions for approximately 700 teachers and school personnel aimed at preventing student violence and approximately 215 student education sessions and awareness events, quarterly training for parents, families and community members regarding violence prevention. Start with Hello and Say Something are two of the Sandy Hook Promise Know the Signs programs being implemented by the District.  Had numerous meetings with students, teachers and families  Staffed more than 25 mental health clinicians within the MSD zone along with therapy dogs  Added two additional guidance counselors to MSD  The District continues to provide ongoing support to the school community. Thus far, we have provided: o o o o o 3,588 clinical hours to students and 217 clinical hours to staff at the Wellness Center. 1,147clinical hours to students and 876 clinical hours to adults at the Broward County Resiliency Center (BCRC). Additional clinical hours have been and continue to be provided by full time clinicians at Westglades Middle and Coral Springs Middle Schools. Additional supportive services were provided specifically to the 10th graders at MSD around resiliency and future planning. This includes skills that support social-emotional functioning and help the student bounce back from adversity by developing confidence, optimism, courage, motivation and endurance. Services and training specifically on suicide prevention, Trauma FocusedCognitive Behavioral Therapy, PREPaRE and Youth Mental Health First Aid have occurred for staff, designated prevention specialists and clinicians. Several parent workshops on these topics were also conducted at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas. Suicide postvention planning is in progress.  The District's facilities department expedited installation of 36 new modular classrooms that were placed before the start of this school year, including two wellness centers where students can receive therapeutic services on campus  The District provides a variety of ways for students and the community can report anonymous tips: o Worked with BSO to disseminate information about SaferWatch app o FortifyFL app to send info o 24/7 security hotline: 754-321-0911 o Email: School911@browardschools.com o Text: CRIMES or 274637 (message must begin with SBBC) o Online: broward.k12.fl.us/siu/siunew/tipsemail.asp  Leveraging dollars received from the state to hire 50 additional counselors, social workers and specialists to provide services to students across the District  Approximately $8 million from referendum will be used to hire more counselors, social workers and behavior specialists across the District  Superintendent and District continue to communicate with families and stakeholders via social media, District website, mobile app and ParentLink (robocalls, emails, text messages)
