TOWN OF CHESTER PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING Presentation of the First Wilderness Trail: Corinth to Tahawus Thursday, April 11th @ 6PM Chester Municipal Center Auditorium PROJECT OVERVIEW The First Wilderness Heritage Trail (FWHT) is a proposed 99-mile recreational trail from the Village of Corinth to the hamlet of Tahawus in the Town of Newcomb. The FWHT is to be a natural surface, sustainable wilderness trail connecting the towns and villages of the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor (FWHC). The proposed trail system will traverse a variety of landscapes as it reconnects the rural and urban communities bordering the Hudson River with hiking, biking and water trails. This project was made possible by funding from Warren County through the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor initiative and NYSDOS with funds provided under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund. Future funding opportunities for engineering and construction include: Warren County FWHC Plan Implementation Grant Program; NYS OPRHP Parks Grant and Recreational Trails Program Grant; and NYS DEC Adirondack Park Community Smart Growth Program. The consultants were The LA Group of Saratoga Springs and Wilderness Property Management of Johnsburg.
