April 9, 2019 Madam President and Esteemed Board Members, I would like to submit my name for consideration of the recently vacated Board seat. I am aware of the challenges and problems facing the District and would like an opportunity to help the Board in their efforts to find solutions for problems and implement changes for growth. My previous experience while I was on the Board has given me insight into what is needed to be a successful, active Board member. I feel I have much to contribute and that my skills, knowledge, and ideas would be an asset to the Board. My personal and professional association and communication with parents, teachers, and classified staff members give me a link to the school community that is invaluable in being awell-rounded Board member. Not only can they share opinions, problem areas, and suggestions, they areaway to keep me in touch of what is really happening and how Board changes affect them. I have listed some highlights that I was part of. • Voted in favor for a new curriculum to the district. • Strategic district plan. • Sat on the committee to bring an audit firm to review the district's accounting methods. I would appreciate the Board giving me an opportunity to interview. Sincerely, Cyr~tn~a ~.5. rv~eyers April 1, 2019 Board of Education Adams County School District 14 Comrrierce City, CO 80022 Dear Adams 14 Board Members, 1 believe that serving in the Boarci of Education is both an honor and a right. As an Adams 14 community member for over 24 years and a 2003 ACHS graduate, l found that it is time to glue back to the district that has given me so much. And [can't think ofa better way than to serve in t~~e School Board. This is why I am applying foi• the Board of Education vacancy. It is re)evant to note that I am an active member of the Adams 14 school community, in and out of schools. have been a long time member and a volunteer at Our Lady Mother of the Church for over 18 years. I am currently a Lector as well as a Eucharist Minister during our weekly Sunday service. Recently, I became a member of CEMEPA (Coalicion pai~a el Mejoramiento de las Escuelas Pu6licas de Adamsl4), CUPC (Community Uniting for Positive Change) and CO IAF (Colorado Industrial Areas Foundation). All of these organizations focus on community organizing and positive change in Adams 14. I strongly believe that my involvement in these organizations gives me a unique opportunity to make a change and create a positive impact in my community and especially in this beloved district. For instance, my adherence to these community organizations was key in reali2ing that in order to maximize every students' educational experience and opportunities, l needed to be actively involved in the district and the schools. I have, since, been a parent volunteer during field trips, school functions and classroom activities. I have also been an active participant in DAAC and attended many community meetings and superintendent forums. While my participation in Adams 14 and in the community has taught me many lessons, it has also exposed me to how a school district works. t have seen how the superintendent's role is crucial in implementing the school board's vision by making important decisions regarding the school programming, staff retention and finances. In essence, the superintendent is the CEO and the face of the district. When the superintendent successfully fulfills his/her role, he/she will have a clear vision for the district, ~incierstand the best methods that ensure students learn best while supporting teachers and staff, effectively communicate with all stakeholders in a clear, t►~ansparent and timely manner, be a great leader and active listener who directs and manages the district with integrity and respect. I have also learned how the school board functiflns. It is responsible for hiring the superintendent and holding him/her accauntahle for his/her decisions, setting a clear vision and goals for the district, adopting policies that support the district's goals while supporting the student's success, adopting an annual budget and rnanaging the bargaining process of employees. Understanding how our school district works, especially how the superintendent and the School Board work together is extremely important, especially when my children's education is at stake. Because of this, l believe that serving as a board member will not only give me the opportunity to collaborate with Adams 14 and the community, but also to advocate for all of the students in the district who dese►-ve the best educational opportunities available. Our school distr[ct offers many great resources and I feel honored to have my children enrolled here. 1 want to work with the School Board and the superintendent to make sure that all of the students can take advantage of everything that the district has to offer and that although we might not have the best academic scores or resources, every student is able to graduate from college, just like l did from the University of Denver in 2007. , As a board member, I will work closely with other members, who like me, have a commitment with students.[ will work shoulder to shoulder to adopt policies that allow ail children to be successful academically and socia!!y, [will also listen to atl points of view with an open mind while we discuss what works best for the district. My main goal is to make sure we all collaborate on a common vision and goal that will drive this district to success. We have what it takes, it's just a matter of implementing the right policies and procedures that will allow us to succeed. I believe my involvement in community and district organizations has allowed me to form relationships with many parents in Adams 14. This will help me reach out to them and address their questions and concerns about the district. Community outreach is an asset that can never be overlooked as a board member and 1 will make sure that their voice is heard, as 1 am here to serve our distr[ct to the best of my ability. Lastly, I have my own children enrolled at Adams 14 schools. Knowing that my children's education is an investment, you can rest assured that everything that i say or do will be for the best interest of every students, as I will treat them as my own. Please cons(der this my letter of intent for the Board of Education vacancy. Thank you for your time and consideration.
