?riznna ?01152 nf a?hnenix, CAriana: 85007 Monday, April 15, 2019 Governor Douglas A. Ducey Executive Tower 1700 West Washington Street . 9?h Floor Phoenix, Arizona 85007 Dear Governor Ducey, Your visit to Nogales last Thursday gave us something important to agree on; there is an emergency at the border. It is the humanitarian crisis of more than 20,000 asylum-seekers that have been released in Arizona to fend for themselves without a plan or appropriate resources. These families are released from ICE once they are determined to have a credible application for asylum in the US and left to ?nd their way to their host family ahead of their ?rst immigration hearing. It is only due to the grace and efforts of valley churches, nonpro?t organizations and dedicated community volunteers that the asylees are fed, sheltered, clothed and helped onward in. their Journey. This volunteer network cannot continue to carry the load unassisted without help from the state. Arizona must step into our humanitarian duty to ensure the safety and dignity of these people who have already endured so much. Especially with the dangers of human traf?cking that exist within our communities. Therefore, we ask that you join us in the following measures: 0 Join us in calling on ICE to allow the asylees to make travel arrangements with their host family earlier in the process. 0 Provide an appropriation to provide relief and support to the nonpro?t organizations that are offering direct aid. 0 Help to identify and secure a long-term shelter solution for asylees. The undersigned are open to have a conversation with you and your staff to talk about how we as a state can provide relief This issue can no longer go unattended.
