Here's a partial list of objections to the Banks Street bridge compiled by my neighbors.        There is no demonstrated need for a bridge. Jesuit’s pedestrian crossing study uses inflated numbers to justify the bridge. At-grade alternatives have not been explored. Jesuit has failed to implement even the most basic traffic-safety measures in place at all other schools throughout the city. The bridge proposal sets an irreversible city-wide precedent. The proposal prioritizes students primarily living outside of Orleans Parish, over younger children who reside in our city and live and attend school here (case in point: next door Esperanza). The benefit to vehicular traffic on Banks Street will be negligible. The bridge threatens irreversible adverse impacts to the health of 130-year-old live oak trees, damaging to the scenic tree canopy over Banks Street.  The bridge threatens adverse impacts on nearby residential property values.  The bridge would further the unfettered encroachment of Jesuit into our historic residential neighborhood.  The bridge is inconsistent with the City's Master Plan, contrary to the goals for a pedestrian-friendly environment at street level.  The prefab, wire-mesh bridge design is inconsistent with the historic character of both the campus and surrounding historic residential neighborhood.  The bridge will not mitigate the severe traffic congestion, parking, and life-safety threats caused by student parking and parent drop-off and pick-up.   The permits issued violate numerous provisions and procedures in the CZO. The permits serve as an end-around that denies this community the benefits afforded through administrative review and approval, due process before various public bodies, meaningful opportunity for neighborhood participation, and potential for provisos which might help mitigate adverse impacts.
