Purpose: The Adams County Democratic Party Executive Committee has unanimously voted to show support for the Adams County School District 14 in their attempt to maintain local control as they are a school district in turn around status by the state Board of Education. Whereas, we support Adams County School District 14 in their endeavors to reorganize and restructure while maintaining local control; Whereas, we believe in local control, adequate funding, smaller class-sizes, keeping and retaining high quality teachers, and neighborhood schools; Whereas, we believe in preschool and full day kindergarten; Whereas, we believe in quality before and after school programs; Whereas, we believe the students deserve strong leaders in positions of authority within the school district; Whereas, we support teachers in their efforts to collectively bargain; Whereas, we support the community school model; Whereas, we are against privatization and corporatization of public schools; Whereas, we are against funneling of public school monies to charter schools; Whereas we support local formative assessments over standardized testing; Whereas, we support proper resources in helping our English Language Learners; Whereas, we support our children’s basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter being met; Whereas, we encourage resources available to parents in all our schools; Whereas, we support adequate mental health resources; Whereas, we support a learning environment that is safe and dry. Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Adams County Democratic Party Executive Committee, on behalf of its members, urges the Adams County School District 14 School Board to choose an External Management Organization who will help adopt a sustainable community school model and work with all the stakeholders to implement an innovative and successful turnaround plan that maintains local control.
