LAURA MOSQUEDA, M.D. Dean May S. and John H. Hooval Dean’s Chair in Medicine Professor of Family Medicine and Geriatrics April 25, 2019 Good afternoon, I wanted you to hear from me directly that we just received a decision from the ACGME. The ACGME has decided to withdraw the accreditation of our Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship programs, although the withdrawal is not effective until June 30, 2020, and to change the accreditation status of the Sponsoring Institution (USC/LAC+USC Medical Center) to Probationary Accreditation, effective immediately. The ACGME’s decision was related to concerns they identified regarding resident safety and wellness processes. We are already pursuing a path consistent with ACGME policy and procedures that will enable us to regain Continued Accreditation for the Sponsoring Institution, and to accredit a new Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program to start July 1, 2020. We as leaders within the Keck School of Medicine are and will be actively involved in this process and we remain committed to fulfilling our obligations to our residents and fellows. It is important to note that all other training programs are still ACGME-accredited. We have taken this opportunity to further enhance our existing wellness programs and to launch new initiatives – all directed toward providing a safe and nurturing environment for residents, fellows, faculty and staff. In the coming days we will be sharing more information with you about our path forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or to Dr. Opas if you would like to discuss this further. Thank you for all you do to advance our institution on behalf of those we serve.
