METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 April 30, 2019 Arrest Made in a Homicide: 5100 Block of Southern Avenue, Southeast (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in the 5100 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. At approximately 4:33 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 57 year-old Barry Holmes, of Temple Hills, MD. On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 29 year-old Terrance Barnes, of Southeast, DC.
