In response to Judge Butterfield's email D Charles BAILEY  to: Eric BUTTERFIELD 12/14/2018 10:30 AM From: D Charles BAILEY/WSH/OJD To: Eric BUTTERFIELD/WSH/OJD Cc: WSH-Judges  Eric, I wish I could believe that you are actually thinking about taking on a leadership role in our county, something you haven't done in the eight and a half years you have been a judge.  But lets be completely honest, you have no intention of putting your name in for PJ and even if you got it you wouldn't last more than a month before you would quit  or make life difficult for everyone around you like you have done many times in the past.   This was a shot at me and I understand that this is your   way of attacking another judge, not in person, not in a closed meeting, but, in a very public way.  It is not the first time you have done it so your passiveaggressive MO is clear and should be crystal clear to all of your colleagues who might be your next target if you were to become upset with them.  As you have tried to do in the past, you want to inflict as much pain as possible on another judge because you aren't happy with yourself. That is just one of the many reasons I will let the Chief Justice know why you would be an absolute disaster as a PJ.   Some of the other reasons include the following:   As a PJ you can't make everything public.  (You will notice this was only sent to the judges) You can't start something and quit it after a short period because it is too hard or too much work.  If you need me to provide examples I certainly can. You can't tell another judge to "F" off , if you do you can't expect them to follow you.   You can't get to work just before your docket begins, you can't leave after your docket is done, and you can't be gone for long periods riding your motorcycle.   You actually have to go to meetings, prepare beforehand and listen when you are there.   You actually have to follow the decisions that are made by OJD and our local body. Lastly, you have to do what is in the best interest of the entire organization, not what is in the best interest of Eric Butterfield or Eric's friends. Your email, especially the decision to send it out to "Wsh-Users" causing staff to be anxious, exemplifies and is exactly why I completely support and will support Judge Erwin to be the next PJ.  I know he is doing it for the right reasons, not some knee-jerk reason.  Moreover, he has already demonstrated his commitment by being part of leadership for many years and not quitting when it gets too much. I very much appreciate that you and many of the others are not happy with the decisions I have made. That is fine.  That comes with actually being a PJ and actually understanding how the entire organization works, not just a single office.  I certainly look forward to the day when I might be able to only think about what is the best interest of Judge Bailey and his staff, not that I will, since all the decisions I have ever made as a judge and especially as the Presiding Judge have always been about making this a better organization. Charlie Bailey The current Presiding Judge   Eric BUTTERFIELD---12/13/2018 12:21:18 PM---Hello, I intend to nominate myself to be our next presidig judge at the appropriate time. Judges, You know how to find me, if you want to chat. Everyone else, I include you on this to assure you this is NOT a vote of "no confidence" in Judge Erwin (who will likely be our next PJ). I have known Andy for 20 years, trust him completely, and have a lot of respect for him as a person and a judge. I just feel like I gotta do this. Goodbye, Eric E.
