UOF, K9 deployment on felony warrant suspect who would not open her trailer door to law enforcement. Suspect had a history of 148(a) PC, known to carry edged weapons, and a meth user. Suspect knew it was law enforcement because she was seen looking out of a window twice and shutting the drapes. Upon entry, suspect was laying on a bed and would not show her hands. The K9 was deployed (several K9 announcements had been previously made) but the suspect would not show her hands and kicked at the K9. The K9 handler delivered two fist strikes to her torso and then two elbow strikes to her head after she continued to punch and kick at the K9. Deputies were eventually able to get her into handcuffs after approximately 3 minutes. Suspect had K9 bites to her upper left arm and a small laceration to her left eyelid, possibly caused by the elbow strikes. Suspect was transported to Eden Hospital for medical care which included surgery to the left arm. K9 protocols were followed and with taking all of the information into consideration the UOF was within policy. However, because of the length of bite, the K9 sergeant was contacted and the incident discussed. The K9 sergeant will go over considerations/ and other options for this type of call during K9 training with his handlers. The ETS Captain will follow this up. BWC disc sent in the QIC.
