This project. was operational on March 15, 1985, approximately four months behind schedule. The completion of this project allowed the new Terminal 1 projects (United Airlines Terminal) to start with the demolition of the old Terminal 1 (International Terminal). This project included the development of an interim international passenger facility. This facility, located in the existing parking structure in the central core, provides approximately 300,000 SF of building space for airline ticketing and baggage functions as well as Federal Inspection Service (FIS) facilities. Related items included buses and roadway work which provide access to Terminal A from remote aircraft parking positions. Also included is the restoration of this area to its original use as a parking facility on completion. of the new International Terminal. The project experienced cost increases primarily as the result of design changes. Total estimated cost exceeded original Airline-Funded Cost, as escalated pursuant to the 1983 Airport Use Agreements, by approximately $12.2 million.
