Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start and are looking forward to an outstanding year!
In an effort to maintain a positive, productive school year and to ensure that
students stay on track we will institute a student contract for all 8th graders. The
contract will set the standard for graduation in accordance with Chicago Public
School Standards as well as Agassiz’s requirements. According to CPS, eighth
grade students must have a final report card grade of “C” or better in reading and
mathematics and score 24% or above on NWEA test. In addition to CPS
standards, Agassiz’s eighth graders will be required to sign a contract and earn
points to participate in the graduation ceremony, 8th grade trip, and luncheon.
Students who earn 250-300 points can participate in the luncheon, trip and
graduation ceremony. Students who earn 225-249 points can participate in the
luncheon and trip. Students who earn 200-224 points can participate in the
luncheon. The points will be based on grades, attendance and behavior. Students
will be able to earn 75 points per quarter totaling 300 points for the year . A copy
of student points will be sent home at the end of each quarter. Points are calculated
as following:
Grades: Students can earn a total of 25 from their core subjects: Reading, Math,
Science, Writing and Social Studies
A=5
B=4
C=3
D=2
F=1

 Attendance: Students will earn 25 points for the quarter if there are no unexcused
absences. If a student is absent due to illness, family emergency, death in the
family or religious holiday (excused absences) and the absence is followed with a
note, students will be excused and will not lose any points.
0 unexcused absence=25 points
1 unexcused absence=20 points
2 unexcused absences=15 points
3 unexcused absences=10 points
4 unexcused absences= 5 points
Behavior: Students will earn 25 points for being responsible and following school
and classroom essential agreements/expectations.
25 points= No detentions (write-ups) or suspensions
20 points= Two restorative lunches
15 points= 1 in-school suspension or
Out of school suspension (plus a loss of attendance points)
10 points= Three restorative lunches and a suspension
0 points= Any physical altercation
Parents, please help our students understand that school is the most important part
of their day and worthy of their best efforts! Help them to remember that they are
setting a standard and should show responsibility, school pride, and respect at all
times!

 Class of 2019 Contract
We have read and understand CPS and Agassiz’s standard for participation in graduation and
other 8th grade activities.
CPS Standard:
● final report card grade of “C” or better in reading and math
● 24% or better on NWEA
Agassiz’s Standard:
● Earns 250 – 300 points throughout the year, student can participate in the luncheon, trip
and graduation
● Earns 225 – 249 point throughout the year, student can participate in the luncheon and
trip
● Earns 200 – 224 points throughout the year, student can participate in the luncheon

(A modified scale will be used for students with an I.E.P.)
