Dear Dr. Thompson,
On behalf of Governor Ned Lamont and the State Of Connecticut, I am pleased to offer you employment with the
Connecticut Department of Education in the position of Commissioner, starting on an agreed upon date. Pursuant to
C.G.S. 10-3a, this agreement is valid upon your recommendation for Commissioner by Connecticut State Board of
Education. Governor Lamont values your leadership and looks forward to working with you.
I would like to provide you the following information:


Appointment to the Unclassified Service: Pursuant to the Connecticut General Statutes, you serve at
the pleasure of Governor Lamont.



Compensation: The compensation for the job classification of Commissioner of Department of
Education is salary group (EX salary grade). Your annual salary will be $192,500.

As a Connecticut State Employee and Agency Commissioner, you are entitled to a host of
benefits including but not limited to health, dental and group life insurance, more detailed
information can be found in “State of Connecticut Employee Benefits Handbook” at
https://www.osc.ct.gov/benefits/docs/EmployeeHandbook.pdf

Upon execution of this agreement, you will be asked by the Governor’s Office to complete a State of Connecticut
Background Information Questionnaire for Executive Appointees which will be conducted by the Connecticut State
Police.
In addition, you may be asked to participate in meetings or discussions in Connecticut in advance to your official start
date to fulfill statutory or legislative obligations, and the Office of the Governor will provide advance notice of said
occurrences.

12:00pm on July 11th, 2019.
