Newly launched Bipartisan Coalition for American Security (BCAS) names former
U.S. Senators Joseph Lieberman and Scott Brown Honorary Co-Chairmen
The mission of the nonprofit 501(c)(4) is to protect American Security
WASHINGTON, DC – Former U.S. Senators Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and Scott Brown (R-MA) will serve as honorary
co-chairs of the newly-launched Bipartisan Coalition for American Security (BCAS).
BCAS is dedicated to the proposition that the prosperity, freedom and security of Americans at home depends
upon the exercise of strong and principled American leadership abroad. It will advocate on behalf of an engaged
and proactive U.S. foreign policy and the tools necessary to sustain it, including efforts to maintain our military as
the strongest national defense in the world, international support and resources that protect our allies and
promote values consistent with a free society, and a bold pro-trade agenda that produces new, robust and
enduring economic growth.
“From Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan, American global leadership has been a bipartisan project that has
produced an unprecedented expansion in human freedom, security, and prosperity at home in America and
throughout the world,” said Senator Lieberman. “Now, however, we increasingly face the danger of a new
consensus in Washington that favors retrenchment and disengagement from challenges overseas, and that
downplays the dangers we face as a nation. I am proud to join BCAS in making the case to the American people
why we cannot afford to turn inward at this critical moment in history, and why—now more than ever—real
leadership in America and abroad is needed.”
“As a nation we cannot afford to shift our national and global security resources and policies from being expansive
and focused on global stability, to one centered on protectionism,” said Senator Brown. “The stakes for America
abroad have never been higher or more important than they are today. The need for a resolute bipartisan
consensus is paramount, and BCAS is focused on advancing an agenda anchored in values that promote national
security, freedom, rule of law, human rights and a strong defense dedicated to maintaining our role throughout
the world as a leader of freedom and safe society. Many serious issues that affect the security and interests of the
United States often culminate outside our boarders long before they reach our shores and become a danger to
America. In order to properly thwart those threats and deal with the agenda of our enemies, we must maintain
effective global outreach efforts and deliver strong support for our allies and friendly nations around the world.”
