Potential impacts include: 1. Additional math teachers would need to be hired in order to offer a fourth year math course. There is currently a shortage of highly quali?ed math teachers, particularly teachers prepared to teach upper level courses. 2. Identi?cation and development needed for fourth year course options, which would also need to be approved by University College Of?ce of the President. 3. Selection of textbooks and materials to support a fourth year math course implementation during-a non-adoption year. Ancillary materials and software adoptions would need to be considered as well. 4. Professional development for teachers implementing new fourth year math courses. 5. Master Schedule impacts because by placing a new course into a master schedule, another course must be taken away. 6. LA. Unified adopted the CSU validation rules that affects math courses. This new policy would impact validation rules and would require the recon?guration of and the on-traclr monitoring systems in Focus, MyData, etc. Space Impact: Yes El No If yes, please describe. Uni?ed aligned its graduation course requirements with the minimum courses required by the California State Universities, known as A-G. The California State University IS considering a changing their admissions requirements to include a fourth year of math. L.A. Uni?ed would have to change the graduation requirements for the class of 2024. The policy would have to be changed during the 2019-2020 school year and be communicated by the spring to all schools and families. This new policy would apply to freshman entering high school in 2020- 2021, the graduating class of 2024. Contact. Requiring a fourth year of math may limit the opportunities for struggling students to get back on track for graduation. 2. Electives students are allowed to take, if they need to take another year of math. 3. A fourth year math requirement becomes problematic for students on accelerated math pathways who enter high school taking Geometry and Algebra 2 as freshmen. 4. Completing all a- courses with a fourth year of math would be a challenge for English Learners that must complete ELD courses and support courses if not reclassi?ed.
