METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 July 23, 2019 Homicide: 2600 Block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 20, 2019, in the 2600 Block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest. At approximately 10:25 pm members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. While canvasing the scene, members were advised that an adult male arrived at an area hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. On Sunday, July 21, 2019, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 30 year-old John Fenner Thomas, of Northeast, DC. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
