RIPCORD (RI Prehospital Cardiac arrest Registry Dataset:
Purpose: RIPCORD was developed to track the impact of the “30 minute protocol” on cardiac
arrest in RI.
Description: IRB approved database of all cardiac arrests that presented to Lifespan EDs (RIH,
TMH, NPT). Current dataset = over 800 arrests between 9/2015 and 3/2018.
Findings: 30 minute protocol drastically changed airway management with increasing rates of
ETI and SGA use. ROSC rate increased significantly. Intact survival will likely reach statistical
significance when the entire registry is assessed (interim assessment at 500 charts)

The dataset is also showing an alarming level of unrecognized esophageal ETI at ED
presentation (essentially one every 3 months) as well as poor confirmation/documentation of
prehospital ETI (no incidents where waveform capnography was quantitatively documented).
