4/22/2019 Google Vault - Fwd: PSFA Occupant Impact Update 03/08/2019 Al I, Please see below for the weekly update regarding construction work in PSFA: 0 Roof work was not able to occur last weekend, due to the rains. Roof work is expected to continue this weekend, as rain is not predicted. Select areas of the roof will be drained of standing water starting Friday morning in preparation for the roof work this weekend. Some fumes may be experienced within the building as a result of the water being drained and off-gassing of the roo?ng materials. We will have fans set up on the roof to dissipate any fumes away from the building and charcoal ?lters at air intakes will be secured. Air scrubbers have been installed in the hallway at each floor, and box fans are available for distribution, if needed. Please continue to keep windows closed at the 3rd and 4th ?oors to keep fumes from entering the building. Jennifer Roessling will continue to walk the building each day to relay any concerns to the project team. 0 A State Fire Marshal inspection occurred on 2/19, and, unfortunately, approval for the use of chemicals in the building was not received. Per the State Fire Marshal, all (7) permanent exhaust fans will need to be installed on the roof before sign-off on chemical use is received. These fans are unable to be installed until roof work is complete at each fan location. We have found a temporary space to move the ENS teaching lab until approval is received for chemical use within the PSFA Building. We anticipate approval will be received within 4-5 weeks, as long as we have favorable weather conditions over the next several weekends. 0 Weekly project update meetings have been established with the College of PSFA and the 4th floor ENS occupants. If any other Colleges would like to set up a weekly meeting to discuss ongoing concerns related to this project, I would be happy to meet with a College representative. Please let me know ifthere are any questions. We understand that this project has had a tremendous impact on everyone inside the building, and I don?t believe we?ve done an effective job communicating to everyone the impacts. Beyond an apology, which I fully realize has only limited value to those of you in the building, we owe you a plan of action to improve our performance on this project. Our Immediate Recovery Plan: Work will now only occur on weekends at night. Assuming it doesn?t rain, we?ve scheduled the roof work to occur for the next three weekends. This will mitigate the immediate odor issues with the materials, but may not alleviate all off gassing concerns. We?re providing an ample supply of fans (10 per floor) that will be available to any faculty member that smells anything out of the ordinary. Furthermore, we?re investigating how many negative air machines we can get if necessary. Roof Work: 0 We?ll be investigating placing snorkels around the air intake vents (that are currently sealed with a double charcoal filter). This could hopefully alleviate any odorous air from entering the building. 0 We?ll be placing large fans on the roof to dissipate any fumes 0 We?re investigating methods to accelerate the off gassing, so it can occur more quickly, under supervised conditions (more to come on this) Weekly construction updates via email, including what to expect in terms of impacts, will be sent to all occupant leaders. We?re working towards a 2/19 SFM inspection date to bring chemicals back in labs 416 377. We?ve implemented the following moves with increased staffing for oversight of this project: Added Staff: 0 Jennifer Roessling, OCMI: Jen will walk the building 3 times per day to check' In on any occupants and check on any pending concerns. She?ll also be able to give any occupants a current plan of any work that is scheduled to take place. She plans to visit the building in the morning, after lunch, and as the day wraps up. Please keep an out for Jen she?s not only friendly, she?s well versed in the construction of this job so she?ll be sure to keep everyone updated if they?re curious. She?ll make her first walk tomorrow (Tuesday) around 9:30am. 0 Conner Ahern Duc Vu, OCMI: We?ve increased construction oversight to be sure the construction team remains on point. Someone from the OCMI team will personally walk the halls of this building every morning after any construction work took place and check fumes, be sure filters on intake are tight, check for any odorous materials left open, etc. PDC, OCMI DPR will meet daily first thing in the morning to discuss daily tasks any concerns that are present. We?d like to suggest the following: We?d like to schedule a weekly check?in with the Dean?s office to update everyone on the upcoming construction activity. In our experience, email only goes so far, so I believe getting together' In person will help alleviate anyone ?3 concerns with the progress of this job. We can be available at your convenience. We ask that occupants please keep windows closed (to keep any fumes from roof materials out) and the building front doors open (in order to bring in clean inside air) All complaints should continue to go through Amanda Alpinersubcontractor. We appreciate your patience and look forward to working with you all on a significantly better path forward! While I don? want to undermine the importance of working with our Project Manager Amanda Alpiner, I do want to note that you should always feel free to call me directly should you feel the project' Is going off the rails. While I suspect you already have it, my mobile number" Is 619. 219. 9778. ll be checking' In with . 4/16 4/22/2019 Google Vault - Fwd: PSFA Occupant Impact Update - 03/08/2019 this project personally weekly until we are fully complete, and we?ll be sending you a weekly project update to help ensure we?re being as transparent as possible in managing and completing this project.
