HOF Day and the NFL Wants to Send Retired Players to Prison 1 message Sat, Aug 3, 2019 at 8:23 AM Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Forward Dear Retired Players and Families, The news I'm bringing today is very distressing. I'll keep this newsletter shorter than usual because of the disturbing message I feel compelled to deliver. The NFL would like to see you in prison. Sadly this is not an exaggeration. For the past two months I've been investigating murmurs indicating the NFL was seeking to permanently disqualify players from participation in the settlement if they were deemed to have omitted or misrepresented something about their condition. I alluded to this in last month's newsletter, but at the time, I had no supporting documents and underestimated the scope of what the NFL is trying to do. Ironically during Hall of Fame Week, which also ironically is the week we mourn the death of HOFer Nick Buoniconti, I finally obtained proof of the NFL's nefarious scheme. The NFL Wants to Send Retired Players to Prison The article is linked above and for all practical purposes imparts all of the information I have at the present time. I'll do my best to monitor the situation and keep you informed, but in the meantime, I'd like to ask for your help. The NFL needs to be aware that we are on to their plot and shamed into backing away from it. We have an opportunity with the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies taking place this evening. If you are on social media, please share this article and use the #HOF hashtag to make the news as visible as possible. I hope that some news sources will assist us in getting the word out, however, I'm not certain it will happen because in order to protect my source, I was unable to link to the documents that confirm the story. If you haven't read it yet, when you do, you'll understand why I had to do it this way. That said, if I can obtain the evidence major media should be able to do the same, but probably not in time to "disrupt" the HOF ceremonies, and this seems to be our best window of opportunity. Hopefully, if we're successful in getting this seen, other media will investigate and help to put pressure on the NFL to back away from this utter cruelty. I feel we've put out some very good content this month that is of interest to retired players. I'm linking to some stories (below) I think you'll want to read later but for now, let's prioritize exposing the NFL's attempt to disqualify and imprison players for essentially exhibiting the traits inherent with dementia. Hopefully, Judge Brody will take notice as well and realize that as much as she wants to keep settlement issues hidden, we're going to shine a flashlight and demand accountability from everyone responsible. What do the Packers financials reveal about the NFL Concussion Settlement? Funder Wants to Know Why Concussion Settlement Isn't in Compliance with Third Circuit Mandate Layers of Fraud Revealed in Scheme to Defraud Brain-Damaged Retired NFLers NFL Disability Pulls Rug From Under Player Disabled Since 1982 NFL Disability Feeds Another Player to the Lions In last month's newsletter we wrote about the cruel denial of Amon Gordon's thrice approved Settlement claim. The Gordons have now appealed to the Third Circuit. This is the first settlement claim to see a hearing before the appeals court. If the Gordons are successful this could open doors for others, so Advocacy for Fairness in Sports wishes the Gordon family the very best of luck in their pursuit of justice. If you missed their story, click below: Amon Gordon's Denial Has Been Appealed to the 3rd Circuit Back to matters at hand... I'm deeply distressed by the settlement developments I've informed you of and I keep trying to think of ways to improve the odds of these players and those who follow prevailing against the league's unconscionable actions. Ordinarily, I'd suggest writing to Judge Brody, but I'm not convinced she cares. Seeger wrote a very strong brief in support of the players but has been known to compromise rather than engage in nasty or visible opposition of the NFL, so I would suggest either writing or calling his office expressing appreciation of his brief and asking him to stand firm and accept no compromises in this regard. Everyone involved needs to know that many eyes are watching. I hope to report better news next month. Best, Sheilla Dingus Founder and President Advocacy for Fairness in Sports P.S.
