Kim Reynolds Governor of Iowa Adam Gregg Lieutenant Governor Stephen Larson Administrator PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 29, 2019 Contact: Tyler Ackerson, (515) 985-9338 Three Ames Businesses to Serve 6-Month Suspensions, Voluntarily Surrender Alcohol Licenses (ANKENY) – The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division announced today that the owner of three Ames businesses holding alcohol licenses – Olde Main Brewing Company, Corner Pocket and DG’s Taphouse – has agreed to a 6-month suspension and voluntary surrender of the licenses at the conclusion of the suspension. The administrative action is a result of an investigation conducted by ABD and complaints filed by the Iowa Department of Public Safety alleging that the owner of the businesses failed to maintain the requisite good moral character required to hold an alcohol license, in particular a lack of good financial standing. Specifically, the complaints alleged that the licensee owed substantial amounts of sales tax, withholding tax and associated penalties to the Iowa Department of Revenue; failed to report or remit beer barrel tax to the ABD; consistently failed to promptly pay the city of Ames for municipal utility services; failed to maintain records required by law; failed to cooperate with ABD investigators; and violated the terms of a consent agreement by failing to maintain dramshop liability insurance and failing to maintain an actively registered corporation with the Iowa Secretary of State. Per a settlement agreement signed on April 24, 2019, the licensee did not contest the violations and agreed that the violations could constitute grounds for revocation of the licenses. “Holding an alcohol license is a privilege, and someone blatantly and repeatedly failing to meet financial obligations to state and local government should not be extended that privilege,” said Josh Happe, ABD Chief of Regulatory Compliance. The alcohol licenses will be suspended from 6:00 a.m. on May 13, 2019, until 6:00 a.m. on November 13, 2019. During the suspension, no alcoholic beverages may be sold, served, consumed or given away. Upon conclusion of the suspension, the alcohol licenses will be surrendered to ABD and subsequently cancelled. Any person currently identified as an owner, officer or director of LJPS, Inc. or G Enterprises, Inc. – the corporations operating as Olde Main Brewing Company, Corner Pocket and DG’s Taphouse – shall be ineligible to hold an alcohol license in the state of Iowa for a period of not less than two years from the date the licenses are surrendered. Referrals have been made to the Story County Attorney’s Office, Iowa Workforce Development, the Iowa Finance Authority, the Iowa Department of Revenue and the United States Department of Labor for further civil and criminal investigation. ### 1918 SE Hulsizer Road, Ankeny, Iowa 50021-3941 PH 866.IowaABD or 515.281.7400 https://abd.iowa.gov About the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division: The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division serves Iowans through responsible and efficient licensing, regulation and distribution of alcohol.
