They make effective use of self-evaluation to reflect on and make enhancements to their service. For example, staff access regular training to improve their knowledge and skills. n Children develop their physical skills and learn how to move in interesting and different ways. They demonstrate confidence in trying new things, for example by participating in outdoor yoga sessions. n Staff develop good relationships with parents and other services. Parents speak very highly of the care and support that the staff offer them and their children. For example, they are fascinated in pond-dipping experiences and know how to keep themselves safe near the water. n Leaders and staff complete regular and accurate assessments of what children can do and need to learn next. They swiftly put in place detailed plans to support children who need additional help in their care and learning. This means that all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are making good progress in their learning. n At times, staff do not make the most of learning opportunities that arise to encourage children explore and test their ideas. Inspector Teresa Newman Inspection report: Bright Sparks Preschool and Out of School Clubs, 23 July 2019 3 of 5 Inspection findings Effectiveness of leadership and management is good The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff understand their responsibility in protecting children from harm. They are aware of the procedures to follow should they have a concern, including what to do if a child is at risk from extreme views or behaviours. Recruitment and induction procedures help to ensure that adults working with children are suitable. Leaders provide effective supervision to support staff in understanding their role and responsibilities. However, further development is required to ensure that the quality of teaching is of a consistently high standard. Leaders develop effective partnerships with other professionals that are involved in the children's care, such as health visitors. Additional funding is being used well to ensure that all children progress well in their learning and development. Recent funding has been used to provide additional staff to support children's well-being. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good Staff know how children learn and provide a range of interesting activities that capture their imagination and develop their creativity. They support children's understanding of mathematical concepts well. For example, staff and children use a range of ways to explore how tall a tower is that they have built together. Staff expand on children's rapidly developing vocabulary and introduce new words that relate to their play. Children have the freedom to make choices about where to play in the well-organised environment. Staff help children to recognise that print carries meaning as together they read signs in the environment. Staff are skilled in supporting children's communication and language development. They provide small groups of children with direct support to help them to make good progress in this area. Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding Children display the characteristics of effective learning, are highly motived and participate in a range of play activities. They have excellent imaginations and are curious about the world around them. Children are highly skilled in being able to identify and assess risk. They relish the opportunity to explore and investigate the outdoor 'forest school' area after checking it is safe to do so. They demonstrate an excellent understanding of the impact of their behaviour on others and are kind and considerate to their friends. For example, they notice when their friends cannot join in their play and seek ways to include them. Staff place high priority on children's emotional well-being. They work in partnership with schools to ensure an exemplary transition for each child. Outcomes for children are good Children demonstrate good levels of confidence and independence. They understand the rules of the nursery and ensure that others adhere to them. This supports children to develop the skills that will help them in their future learning and their move to school. Older children are confident to speak in groups and listen attentively to the views of others. Young children enjoy books and join in with familiar stories and actions. Older children are develop their understanding of money as they sell imaginary ice-creams to their friends.
