Proclamation
Filipino Heritage Month
June 2019
WHEREAS, 2019 commemorates the 121st commemoration of Philippine Independence from Spain on
June 12, 1898; and

WHEREAS, June 12th offers an opportunity to celebrate the marking of this historical event. The
inaugural year In the proclamation made by the House of Commons on the 30th of October 2018,
designated the month of June of every year as the Filipino Heritage Month in Canada from coast to
coast, in recognition of the contributions that the Filipino-Canadians h~ve made to the cultural,
economic and social vitality of the Halifax Regional Municipality; and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of all Canadians to be able to share In the rich historical and cultural
heritage of Filipinos and to become more familiar with all its aspects both traditional and contemporary;
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Mayor Mike Savage, on behalf of Regional Council, encourage all
citizens to recognize and celebrate the many achievements, and contributions of the vibrant and
dynamic Filipino-Canadian community that is proud of its culture and heritage to our Municipality and
hereby proàlaim June 2019 as “Filipino Heritage Month” In the Halifax Regional Municipality.
