2019 STATE REPORT CARD SCS Facts & Highlights Shelby County Schools recognizes significant areas for continuous support and improvement, including a Level 1 TVAAS (growth) rating. However, there are some very encouraging signs of progress on the State’s 2019 State Report Card that the District can build on to impact student equity, early literacy, core instruction and college-/career-readiness. Success Rates are higher than 2017-18 in every grade band and nearly every demographic subgroup. For the second consecutive year, the number of SCS-managed schools on the state’s Priority list has decreased, with three (3) schools exiting. The Reward list, which are the state’s top-rated schools for student achievement and growth, includes 22 SCS-managed schools. Notable gains were also made in Math and in all high school subjects. We realize much work has to be done to improve literacy in our community which is why we have spent so much time and energy developing our equity in action plan which prioritizes the 3rd grade guarantee. By putting more resources into our early grades, we believe we will empower our children to be strong readers throughout their academic careers. Additionally, we know it’s critical to ensure our students are ready graduates, so we’ve made significant investments to expand and strengthen programs that prepare our students to pursue high-demand degrees and careers.
