We're excited to announce that today we'll be releasing an update that should help to address both of those pain points. As a user of Video Request, you will have the option to include a custom message that will be included in the email our Ring users receive. This will aliow you-law enforcement-to provide Ring users with additional details for context, and/or your contact information in case they want to reach out. Manfredi, John From: Manfredj, John Sent: Tuesday, February 26. 2019 5:14 AM To: Nowackt, John Subject: RE: Ring App questions Attachments: l.jpg; S.Jpg; quick vid.MOV; PORTAL.mp4 Sir, ThanR you. I will be more than happy to answer any questions for you. i am enclosing screen shots from the app along with a video of my personal neighbors feed so you can see what it looks like. I compietely understand your concern and want you to know that the department is not promoting any Ring products like doorbells or cameras. What we are promoting is the use of the Neighbor's app that is provided by Ring which is free to anyone. 1 personally have the app on my phone and prepared a short video above labeled quick vid for you to see what it looks like in my phone which would be the same as a residents phone. The video is from my neighborhood feed. The screen shots are ones I prepared for you to show you what a resident would see and use from their smartphone in Rolling Meadows. Again, the App itself is free to anyone to use and allows any user to upload any video from their cameras along with a brief description of what the event is. The videos can be from Arlo, blink, and any camera that the owner can access from their smartphone. Ring realizes the power of sharing videos so they make the app accessible for any mp4 video from any camera for free. The Neighbors app is a portal to where the videos can be shared by the user to anyone. The videos that that are in the app are public that people automatically share with everyone. Where this program is useful is that the portal is where only the police have access to. The portal is where we know that someone has video In the area and we are requesting video from their camera for investigative reasons such as a burglary. The user chooses to share the video with us only if they want to. The hot spots are where ring cameras are located in Rolling Meadows. The portal is where the requests are made. The user would then be contacted and asked if they could share their video with us. !n the video titfed PORTAL it is one I created to show you how the investigative part works. The red in the video are all the ring cameras that are located in Rolling Meadows and what I would be requesting from those residents if they chose to share with us. I titled it a mock burglary in the area of 3600 Kirchoff. I hope some of this is useful and will be happy to answer any questions you have. Edits reflect a few of the best practices and terms we have learned to avoid (especially when making these initial announcements) in order to avoid confusion for residents and keep focus on the key components. For example; Extra emphasis on cameras/video and using terms like 'surveillance' can flag user privacy concerns and fake away from one of the key points to drive in the announcement which is that anyone can (and should!) download the app to participate. Folks already see *Rmgf and think cameras so, we have to drive this delineation pretty overtly for it to come across it seems. We appreciate your patience and flexibility here? I know the editing process can be tedious and so feel free to call me anytime to discuss edits and iron things out on the phone ifthats easiest. My team loved your success story so much they wanted to share it with all the other departments that Ring has partnered up with in the US! They are wanting to share this out to them today. Can you please verify that everything is in order here and if we have your permission? Shortly after receiving 50 video submissions through the Neighbors Portal, the Rolling Meadows Poiice Department made an arrest. On March 14,2019, a resident's Ring device captured a person trespassing on their property. The homeowner immediateEy shared his video on the Neighbors App and contacted RMPD. RMPD saw an opportunity to request additional recordings from neighbors so they sent a Video Request through the Neighbors Portal. One video recording in particular showed the same suspect's image, car, and Eicense plate clearly. With the help of a neighboring department who identified the suspect in an ongoing home burglary investigation, RMPD successfully located the suspect's car and made an arrest. **[links to success story article on the Portal Resource Center (PRC) with full version of the story (see below) which will also link to the agency's Facebook post and if possible, include the video itself] Full Version: The Rolling Meadows Police Department utilized the Ring Neighbors Portal to make an arrest shortly after being onboarded. On 3/14 a Neighbor shared a video to the Neighbors App showing an unknown individual trespassing on his property. This individual is seen driving his car up the long driveway and parking in the back. The homeowner called the Rolling Meadows Police Department who saw this as a great opportuiuty to send out their first Portal Video Request to retrieve more information. The Video Request was sent and within the hour they received over 50 video submissions. One video stood out because it showed the unknown individual from the first video standing at the side door knocking to see if anyone was home. The homeowner caught this video on his second Ring Camera, answered this motinn alert and was able to set off the siren from the camera, scaring the individual who then fled from the scene. The Rolling Meadows PD took this valuable video footage which included footage of the suspect's car and license plate, as well as an image of the suspect's face, and pushed it out to surrounding departments. The RPD's neighboring police department had an ongoing investigation of the same suspect for a home burglary in their jurisdiction. With the heip of this shared information, they were able to locate the suspect and make the arrest. I have CC within this email Officer Saez who works with our elderly population. He was wondering if a representative from Ring would be able to meet with our seniors. Please let Officer Saez know if this is at all possible. On a side note, I registered our department for the Ring NN0 Kit and I have still not received a reply as of yet. Would you be able to assist me with this? I did sign up twice including today. Thanks, John Sgt. John Manfredi Rolling Meadows Police Department 36QOKirchoffRd.
