Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On August 17, 2019, at approximately 10:57 p.m., Trooper Robert Litvin, in a patrol unit also occupied by Trooper Joshua Engleman, attempted to stop a Toyota Camry for failing to signal a turn in Dallas, Texas. The Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 driver, later identified as Schaston Theodore Lamarr Hodge, did not stop, and a pursuit ensued. After evading for several minutes, Hodge pulled into the driveway of a residence and stopped. Hodge got out of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the troopers, and fired. In response, both troopers returned fire with their service pistols, striking Hodge. The troopers immediately applied first aid to Hodge until he was transported to the hospital.
