STEM Making S TEM l ea rn i n g a ccessib le a n d excitin g is a p r ior it y of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. Launched in 2016, today we have 56 functional, turnkey STEM programs in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, as well as a district-wide public school system that includes 33 elementary schools in Oklahoma City. Our mobile STEM program can be implemented easily in any community and requires no set space which gives underserved kids in disadvantaged neighborhoods the opportunity to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs. The goal of this initiative is to provide access to at-risk youth who would otherwise never learn about STEM. Engaging kids at an early age will prepare them to start thinking about educational attainment and their future career paths in STEM fields. LEGO® WeDo 2.0 • Curriculum Guidebook is a step-by-step, easy-touse guide with lessons for teachers or youth mentors to implement a fun and educational STEM program. • Training by the Ripken Foundation staff will provide ongoing program and technical support for all STEM Center partners. • Furniture package for each school or youth organization to create a mobile STEM space can included 1 mobile workbench, 7 elemental clover tables, and 28 stackable chairs. • STEM Challenge, a national competition hosted by the Ripken Foundation which uses real-world problems to encourage students to apply STEM skills and knowledge to develop innovative solutions. O R G STEM The Rip ke n F o u n d a t i o n ST EM Cen ter is designed for youth- based organizations and schools who already have an existing space or designated area to implement the STEM program. We make it really easy with a full-service STEM package that can go in any school or community across the country. Our goal is to develop new and relevant ways to help at-risk youth gain access to the necessary tools and resources that they need to live healthy, productive lives. We believe STEM programming will enhance their ability to be successful adults and give back to society creating systemic change in their communities. The U.S. Department of Commerce projects that STEM occupations will grow at a significantly faster rate than non- STEM occupations. In addition, STEM workers command higher wages, earning 26 percent more than their non-STEM counterparts. We are already seeing impact in the culture and climate within the classroom: better behavior, kids engaged, excited, working more as a team.
