METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 September 14, 2019 Homicide: 5000 Block of Arkansas Avenue, Northwest (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, September 13, 2019, in the 5000 block of Arkansas Avenue, Northwest. At approximately 8:25 pm, Fourth District officers responded to the 5000 block of Arkansas Avenue, Northwest for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 32 year-old George Ransford, of Northwest, DC. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
